Kootenay National Park

Kootenay National Park protects 1,406 sq. km. of Rocky Mountain wilderness in the southeastern corner of British Columbia. Along with Yoho, Banff and Jasper National Parks, and Mt. Robson, Mt. Assiniboine and Hamber Provincial Parks, Kootenay forms part of UNESCO's Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site, one of the world's largest protected wilderness areas.

Each of the parks has its own character and offers its own unique experience. From glacier-clad peaks in the north to dry, cactus-bearing slopes in the south, Kootenay offers a variety of landscapes and more of an off-the-beaten-track experience.

The park may be enjoyed from the scenic Kootenay Parkway, with its viewpoints and picnic sites, or from one of the many walking and hiking trails. A variety of other activities may be experienced in the park.

Like all national parks, Kootenay has an important role to play in protecting Canada's natural heritage. Please keep this in mind as you explore and discover the wonders of Kootenay!
