On Your Own Two Feet in Glacier National Park
Hiking in Glacier National Park offers you the chance to
explore the rugged Columbia Mountains.
Glacier's 18 trails range from short, valley-bottom strolls,
to steep, tough climbs. Some have spectacular mountain and glacier views, while
others wind through stands of ancient, giant trees or probe the secrets of the
abandoned railway over Rogers Pass.
Trails range in difficulty from short, self-guiding nature
trails, to strenuous day hikes, to multi-day backpacking trips in
little-visited, spectacular terrain. The Illecillewaet Campground is the
starting point for several spectacular day hikes. These trails were built
before 1900 and were designed to help guests at the Glacier House hotel get to
the peaks. These rugged trails offer ridge-top experiences and mountain views
second to none.
