Each gondola comfortably accommodates four passengers and
has been sensitively designed to ensure that everyone enjoys a world class view
of the alpine splendour. Once on board, the Banff Gondola smoothly transports
you skyward to the summit (2,281 m, 7,486 ft. above sea level) in just 8
minutes! As the vast panorama unfolds before you, you’ll discover endless photographic
opportunities. But there’s much more to the Banff Gondola experience...
We’re easy to get to only minutes by car from downtown Banff
(just follow our map). If you require transportation, Brewster Grayline offers
a bus service from May to October (call 762-6767 or contact www.brewster.ca),
taxi service is available year round.
Our Heritage
Since 1959 visitors have ascended Sulphur Mountain by way of
our gondola. The original tea house afforded a rest stop for visitors who hiked
to the summit. A marvel of engineering, the Gondola Lift opened in 1959 after 2
years of construction. Since the early part of the last century, Sulphur
Mountain has been an important landmark for Banff and the Canadian. Rockies.
From 1903 until 1945, Norman Sanson climbed the mountain over a thousand times
collecting scientific observations for the Canadian government.
